Operation homework: how to make it a success

25/09/2018

The amount and type of homework that our children have depends on each school and teacher, but they are done at home, so our attitude as parents is key to doing homework a positive task and not a reason for daily problem.

At the beginning of the course we can lay the foundations for the operation to be a success throughout the year. Agree that you must do it and do your best. Give them a hand if necessary. Do not do homework with / for them. Be aware of them with a certain distance. Give them space, autonomy and confidence. Encourage them before doing them and congratulate them when they finish. Point. Not offering material rewards for doing your homework is your obligation. When they finish, you do not have to celebrate with a party. A good job is enough!

Deberes al principio de curso

For us there are three key points for the operation to be a success:

Motivation and emotions

Agree a fixed time to do homework

Have a comfortable and organized space

The motivation

There is a slow but safe method to motivate our children and educate them in good habits. So that doing homework is not a detestable obligation or a reason for parent-child problems, we must give it a positive approach.

The first days we can help you to organize. Give them ideas on how to have all the things they will need by hand, so they do not have to constantly get up and stay focused. It will also help them to do the most complex tasks or those that least interest them in the first place, since they will be fresher and leave what they like the most for the end, so it will be easier to finish.

But we must keep in mind that homework is their responsibility, not that of their parents. We will be there to help you if you need it, but you must understand what your task is.

Deberes responsabilidad alumnos

To manage time

Evenings after school are not very long and our kids usually have quite full of activities and commitments: after school, park, friends ... What is the best time to do homework?

Organizar el tiempo para los deberes

Surely there is not a single ideal moment, for each family or each child will be better one moment than another. The important thing is to find and define that moment.

Establishing a fixed schedule to do homework is important so that this task is integrated into everyday life and thus avoid having to discuss each day if homework is to be done now or later. The best time will depend a lot on the character of your children. You may feel better if you do your homework right after you get home, so you have the rest of the afternoon free. Others prefer to rest awhile and have a snack before going to work.

The important thing is not to leave them for the end of the day, since they will be too tired and after dinner it is convenient to leave a time without obligations before going to sleep.

The ideal space: comfortable and organized

To facilitate the concentration and that the homework does not occupy more time than necessary, it is advisable to have the desk organized and with all the things you need at hand: eraser papers, if necessary, a pot with pens, pencils, colours, paper basket etc. While the table should be as clear as possible, it is also interesting that they have near and ordered all the materials they need: agenda, notebooks, folders, filing cabinets, etc.

We encourage you to organize the workspace at the beginning of the week and leave it neat at the end of each day. You will see how much time you save on a day-to-day basis! The clearer the table is, the better.

Espacio para hacer deberes

The corner to study must have the right light. No screens, if you do not need them. Minimizing the distractions of the place of study is a guarantee of finishing it on time.

Espacio ideal para hacer deberes

In short, what parents can do to help our children get their homework done is a positive task is to create an adequate space and time. Trust them and encourage them instead of pressing them.

A lot #LoveBusquets and Good job!
